Katie Mixon oversees Priority Based Grants, One Book Read City, and other educational programs as the Director of Educational Initiatives for Knox Education Foundation.
She earned both a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in reading from Carson-Newman University. Before joining KEF as Academic Impact Manager in May 2022, Katie served as a classroom teacher in both Hamblen and Knox counties and as an instructional coach for Knox County Schools. Additionally, she trained teachers across the state in literacy best practices under the Tennessee Department of Education’s Read to be Ready and Reading 360 initiatives.
Katie holds certifications as an Early Childhood Generalist from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and as a Reading Specialist from the Tennessee Department of Education. She is a member of the International Literacy Association, Literacy Association of Tennessee, and Smoky Mountain Literacy Council. An avid community supporter, she serves as a tnAchieves Mentor and is involved with the Junior League of Knoxville.
She resides in Knoxville with her husband, Joe, children Evie and Porter, and their family dog, Macey. In her free time, she enjoys reading and participating in a book club, playing tennis, and spending time with friends and family.
